Building Memories....;>)

>As an earlier poster pointed out, getting the grandkids involved in a building project is really building memories, not just a bench.
When I decided to make a bench for my grandkids I had multiple purposes in mind. It would not only serve as a great project to train future woodworkers but also give me a dry run prior to building my own much delayed bench.
This is Corey, an 8 year old, helping me plane down stock we earlier ripped from 2x6 fir planks. The top will end up about 2 1/2" thick.
The second picture shows his "little" brother, Caleb who is 6. Caleb couldn't help today because he had earlier turned on the dust collector without asking for permission. He watched and participated in discussion.
The base in the 2nd picture is 4x4 fir planed to about 3 1/2". Joints are machine cut tenons and hand cut mortises. After cutting 8 of those I ordered the Shop Fox bench top mortiser. I think of it as a hand tool that eats electrons.
