Weekend Projects

Ernie Miller Topeka

>Its getting late and Im just now posting? I hope every one down South make it thought this next round. You people are getting clobbered. I will try and keep you all in my thoughts as this weekend passes its going to be really nice here 85-90 and sun. Any way I have some company in town so woodworking will be slow but I will try. I need to get a couple coats of lacquer on the island bar for my wife. I still need to make the doors and drawer fronts but have a good start on them. I want to try and get the last of the drawers made for my work bench. I started working on the bench tour it will put most of your shop tours to shame. I have gotten the pen mandrel parts made for my treadle lathe so I will try and get that up and running so I can turn a pen for the guy that made the parts. I need to clean both shops and the basement that is out side the basement shop. EVERY ONE HAVE A SAFE AND ROCKIN GOOD WEEKEND!!!

Going to Maine!

Paul in NJ

>We're starting our trip early in the morning and boy do I have road fever. It is such a beautiful place with so many things to experience. I hope we get to see the Northern Lights again and I look forward to seeing the night sky.

If you see a funny looking guy wearing a WC hat please say hello. I wish we had more than a week.

>I've got 3 small jobs going in the shop and they're all just about completed, best of all they're all paying jobs... er well sort of. :)

The things I'll stoop to to support my habbit.

A few spindles turned and finished to repair a very interesting carved chair in trade for about 300 ft of some of the nicest S2S hardwood, mostly poplar but some beautiful cherry and white oak as well.

Smooth and build some rough cedar into some simple faced shelves in trade for a clean little 50's vintage Rockwell/Delta 6" jo*^nt#r. :)

Build and install a couple of plumbing access covers panels for that dear sweet lady who raised me, which gets me off the hook for a bday present next week. :) And I usually get fed pretty well too which, as my friends know, is excellent incentive for me to do woodwork.

Have a good one! beep beep!

>I'll be sending time sharpening tools, waxing them and just making sure that they don't rust. (Had a small pool of water unexpectedly appear in the basement!)

I also plan on looking through the new LV catalog, using my new LV Straight Edge on everything possible, and making a few raised panel doors.

Have a great one, eh!

>Looks like I'll be preparing for the visit from Ivan the Terrible. I don't have time for this as my electricians Instructor assigned some home work. :~( Got to read the Codes of Section 80, 90, and 100, plus do an assignment. don't think any of it is going to get done, and got a feeling there won't be any school Monday and possibly Tuesday

Spent 9 hours today sawing up that big branch that split off my oak tree during Frances. Got it all out of the neighbors yard, and most of it fragged up to the roadside for pickup. Will finish it tomorrow if the weather is good. Worked today during a thunder storm, but the rain was light, so I kept at it. Need to get this done ricky-ticky as they are scheduling extra tree waste pick up over the weekend.

If the weather is too foul to work outside I putter about in the shop and hopefully finish up that grindstone at least, but I do need to focus on that homework more than anything.

I should be doing it now, but I'm BEAT!

Thanks for thinking of us Ernie.

>We had the city inpsector come out today for the second time and this time we passed inspection, so it looks like we are going to spend the weekend hanging drywall. Kind of looking forward to that new experience.

Also hoping to get out to the wood store to get some wood to build some simple shelves. Kind of thinking of using some purpleheart or bloodwood with a basic oil finish. Like that, I think those wood's natural color will look really great against the new paint color we are going put in our living room.

Have a great weekend, everyone! For those in the Southeast, I wish you the best of luck. You will be in our prayers.

>We have a cottage for a couple of days mid-coast in Edgecomb to start with and may stay for a couple more. I am interested in the Maritime Museum in Bath and there seems like much to see and do in the area. I think there even is a flea market or two nearby. We will probably wind up at Acadia National Park at the end of the week. We don't have an agenda or schedule and are just going to explore the back roads and relax. We might even drive all the way up to the most eastern part, Lubec I think.

Hurricane clean up

Robin Frierson

>My shop got flooded in Hurrican Francis and I am trying to tackle all the rust. I lost a window in the shop and everthing was blasted for two days with hurricane force wind driven salt spray. No fresh water for a week to even wash them off. Talk about rust.

And did you know that some electric tools, even after being submerged for 2-3days, still work. My Lee Valley power sharpener was underwater also and is currently drying out. Will see if it works today.
