Infill Shoulder Plane

>I am goin to attempt to design and build an infill shoulder plane from scratch. And I have several questions. I have never held or seen a shoulder plane before, and I dont get how the blade goes in. It doesent seem like there is room to get it in or out. How doese it work? Also does anyone have some templates or sketches/drawings of infill shoulder planes. Any favorite designs? Suggestions, tips?

Thanks

>Sorry, no plans or pictures. The iron for my Shepherd enters the body of the plane on an angle to the bed. Once it clears the cut-outs on the sides, it happily returns to horizontal and lays on the bed. Mmmmm, bed. Comfy pillows. Fluffy blankets.

Excuse me while I go for a nap

>Can any wood be used to stuff it? Is cherry ok? Does it have to be a stable wood?

>There are some plans and instructions for building one in the book by the late Jim Kingshott, Making & Modifying Woodworking Tools

. Unfortunately, the book is out of print, and is going for about $90 USD in the used book market. Perhaps you can find a copy at your local library.

>Cherry is fine. So is walnut. Mahogany, rosewood boxwood or ebony are more traditional woods though.
