Drawknife ID

Steve Kubien

>Hi everybody,

I picked up my first drawknife today. I have no immediate need for it but lots of folks find their's indespensible so I picked it up. I have a couple of basic questions.....

Does anyone know the name "Mitchell" in the drawknife world? It is not a name I recognize.

Of more importance....Other than chair legs and that sort of work, where do you find a drawknife useful? Are there odd jobs which they are a 'down-and-dirty' tool as opposed to a plane, saw or chisel? Curious.

Thanks for the help,

>Dunno about Mitchell, but can tell you that drawknives are handy as all get out. Can be used for hogging off waste, or fairing to a line.

Now than Stevie ol' boy, be advised that there is more type of drawknives than Carter has liver pills anf you my friend have just steeped off the edge of a whole new slope. Handles that fold, handles that aree tilted up, handles that are tilted down, convex blades, narrow blades, wide blades, long blades, short blades, lions, tigers, and bears, who he, who ha. :~)

How to use a drawknife: Any dang way that it'll do what you want it to do. Bevel up, bevel down, bevel sideways, bevel upside down standing your head while singing HA COONA MATATA underwater.

Discovered drawknives eh? You poor bass-ted

Maybe Gerry will be looking for some company down by the river.

>I think you'll find plenty of uses for your drawknife. You'll be doing something and trying to figure a way to perform a certain function and the drawknife will come to mind as the perfect tool for the job. This has happened to me alot of times since I got mine.

As one example,I think the drawknife is perfect for making axe handles or just fitting a new one.I own 3 different sized Pexto's,still looking for a cheap, good condition Witherby.---Jack

I'm getting that warm, fuzzy, nervous feeling.

>The trick to using a drawknife, beside getting it sharp, is having a shaving horse to hold the work. I got this link here and it is really great.
