Veritas Low Angle Jack Plane

>My LOML gave me the Low Angle Jack Plane from Lee Valley for a 34th wedding anniversary present last week. I greatly appreciated it and really liked the plane with one exception. The screw holding the blade clamp in place seems too short. You have to back it out to what seems like the last thread to slip the clamp into the lock down position. Then, you have to tighten the screw or risk stripping it while clamping the blade.

Has anyone else experienced this? I reported it yesterday to Lee Valley's customer service people and they emailed me right back saying they would check it out. It was too late when I reported it to hear anything else.

I'm certainly no expert but I wonder if they used the same screw as the Low Angle Smoother and the thicker blade on the Jack is causing the problem.

>I havent had that problem. Have you tried adjusting the screw on the lever cap, you can loosen it such that it slips easily over the screw that holds it down.

>That's the very problem I've experienced. To get the clamp to slip into the locked position, you must back the clamping screw all the way down and then loosen the other screw out to about the last thread. Then the blade clamp can slip into the locked position.
