More whining about $$$$

WoodburnBob

>This morning I hooked myself up via the digital highway to my bank checking account so I could begin paying bills free on line and stop buying stamps. Anticipating big bucks would be flowing in I figured I better find a safe place to stash the lettuce...safe and inaccessible...so I almost took the opportunity to open a savings account online while I was "connected". Haven't had a savings account since I was a boy. I noticed the current interest rate I'd get is 0.30%. I went limp. That's right. There's no misprint there! Guess instead I'll leave what lettuce accummulating in the checking account at 0.13% and feel smug all over inside.

So here's the on-topic material:

This evening I notice Murland's infill offerings have gone up a bit. Each of these at $695. It wasn't that long ago these were on the order of $350. Anybody else noticing these peculiar patterns and trembling?

How 'bout this then? *PICS*

WoodburnBob

>After a sleepless night tossing and turning over the collapse of civilization, I bolstered myself up enough to go out and get the mail. Hiding between bills and solicitations, this high quality postcard from the Fine Tool Journal peeked out and winked at me.

I think I get these kinds of postcards several times a year because I was a subscriber some years back and the Journal is hoping I'll sign on again. But perhaps everyone on WC gets them.

If you are wondering about the illustration, here's the ad copy. In the middle of the second paragraph you'll note the phrase: "But, if you choose to use it ...". Gave me the first smile of the day. I think I'll just hold on until the LN No. 3 & 3/8 comes out...which shouldn't be long now.

I just got that card in the mail today and read that phrase to my wife. It would be a great plane to have, but I can't afford to have it without being able to use it.

>but the idea of new tools as the next collectable sounds stupid. Kind of like Franklin Mint for Neanders or Neander-wannabes :-)

Having said, I fully respect an individual's right to dispose of their income as they see fit.

I think it was Franklin mint who did a Miller's patent.

I've seen them on the 'Bay for a couple of hundred.

They look bad, even in ebay images, gotta imagine they're worse in the hand.

PS, Gotta be honest though, I've got one of Paul Hammlers #51's.

Wasn't a must have for me, but it came easy as part of a deal on a CNC mill I threw his way.

I keep meaning to use it once, just because.

>The fact is that most folks in affluent societies have way more than they need and spending, even if you cannot pay off the card each month, has become normal.

I certainly do not blame LN for making something that folks will buy even if they do not need it or will not use it, but I too shake my head when I see this stuff. Thanks for sharing it Bob - we are not all on the list.

Having said that, I do sometimes question the wisdom of some purchases however. You only have to look at what some people have in garage sales to see that for yourself.

And yeah, there are some things I have bought that would have been better left in the shop as well :-)
