Ernie Miller Topeka

>This is going to be a busy weekend Roger Nixon has organized a hand tool user get together and I will be attending that I have the small bench disassembled and ready to load into the car I still need to get together a pile of planes for show and tell I also might get the parts for the last 5-6 drawers that are needed for the big bench. I can see a dove tail competition going on Ill bring along my mouth harp and do my best Tom Sawyer impersonation. Sunday I need to get some yard work done and put every thing back in the shop. Im beat so I am cutting out of work early today. If any one want to stop by Topeka and talk tools give me a yell and I will get you directions. Or stop by traditionaltools.com and look for them there. EVERY ONE HAVE A SAFE AND ROCKIN GOOD WEEKEND!!!

>Got a new shop kitty this week! I need to make some doors for the "under the kitchen sink" storage area. Have to keep the critter away from those harmful cleaning products and out of the garbage too.

Finish crown molding and trim work in "the office". If my milk paint arrives I can finish the saw till, if it doesn't I'll start on the drawers for it. Need to do some sharpening of tools too.

>I'm joining Ernie on Saturday for Roger's "Tornado Alley Galoot Fest." We're going to be "playing" with several different DT saws. We are also going to compare different methods of cutting dados. That's been subject of past threads on WC. We'll be trying a #45, a #46, a #39 and maybe some woodies. Hopefully, we can report back to WC with some results.

>Tonight, I'm going to make a big pot of spaghetti sauce and welcome home LOML, who has been on the road for a month.

Tomorrow, I'm working on the tiller restoration project again. Hopefully, I'll get these two bent sticks shaped into something that resembles a wishbone, and that fits the existing rudder. If we get tired of doing that, there are a few other basket cases that need to be made to look and work like boats again. Yesterday, I found a place in the shop to hide one of them. I wonder if it's owner will be able to find when he gets here.

>Hi Ernie,

I won't be taking it easy this weekend. I have some projects that need to be done for other people.First ,I'll be finishing up a red oak saw buck I'm building to display a time capsule. Then,I need to design and build a display case to show off an old vase or clay jug for the same person. Also,I need to build a portable appliance garage for a lady to keep her toaster oven in when not in use.She wants it out of sight on the counter but she's only renting so it has to be portable. Finally I just took on another project(am I nuts?)I need to think about an occasional table for a wedding present.I'm thinking shaker style.

Now if only company will stay away for the weekend I may get even a little bit of this done.

Have a fun weekend all---Jack

>Set up some ambitious project finishing this weekend:

Making a clamshell cabinet for the garage to house all my spray cans in the doors, and all the automotive products from a "shelf" behind the rear door. This will free some floor space for a grinding/OSS station to be built later. The clamshell with be 47"x30"x15.5". Base portion is 47x30x9.5" and the swing out doors 47x30x6". The spray cans fit in the door 1 and a 1/2 deep so they stagger and can be seen. I will put how ever many shelves in there, and put a front stop to keep them from being able to fall out.

After finishing this cabinet on Saturday, I will start making the inards for 3 drawers to go into the pedastal bed I made over the last few months.

Then I am using the left over plywood for a scrapbooking cabinet for the wifey to replace an open top iris cart.

Oh yea, gotta mow the yard too after 2 weeks of ran and sun cycle which only dried out today.

>Mike,

I hate to say this, but the thought did just occur to me that perhaps you might save some of the damaged wood from your house to use in future projects for your house. sort of like making a bowl from a tree that was special to you. With a home as old as yours some of that wood must be original to it eh?

Just a thought.

Keeping you in mind, and in my Prayers.

>Made it to completion on the clamshell cabinet to take the place for a floor standing store bread rack. Will need to replace my brad nailer, a HF cheapie. Maybe buy the PC or the new Bostich I saw in a recent Wood magazine for about $100 next month.

My piano hinges gap just a tiny bit at the edge of the door, which allows about 3/16" sag to the doors. What is a proper hinge for heavy doors on a cabinet? I figured a full length piano hinge amoung the best to use.

Also got a little ink wheel carrying rack made for my wife whipped out this afternoon.

Hand tools:

sand paper

chisel

file

rasp

No 5 plane

clamps

rockler clamp-it angles

screwdriver

vix-bit to use as a center punch

electron transmungers:

Tablesaw

air compressor
