>Well its time we all wind down for the weekend! This one will be much easier than the last. NO CONCREET! I will try and get the wifes island/bar ready for finishing. I want to get some drawer glides made for the work bench I will have to dig through the lumber pile for some hard maple. I spent several evenings cleaning the nander shop so I will need to hang some more modular shelves to hold all the fine tools I have decided to keep that have been stacked in piles after bringing them home from sales. If it is cool in the mornings I will work on cleaning the power tool shop. Next weekend is the Tornado alley Gloot fest so I will need to get some stuff together for show and tell. Monday will bring the actual accomplishments of the weekend . EVERY ONE HAVE A SAFE AND ROCKIN GOOD WEEKEND!!!!!!!!!

>Saturday afternoon, I'm going to look at some Sitka spruce. We'll see if what they have will be useful for either or both of two totally different restoration projects, which require maximum stiffness at minimum weight. One project is a new mast and boom for an old dinghy, the other is a new sounding board for a clavichord. Needless to say, I won't do any more than obtain wood on either of these this weekend. I will make some progress on building a new tiller for another old dinghy. In this case, it needs to look like the old one, fit the old shearwater rudder, but will not fail in the heat of combat like the old one did some time in it's threescore history.

Bent lamination ash, epoxy and carbon fiber will insure it is strong enough, but the carbon fiber isn't very nice to edge tools. I haven't thought much about Sunday yet, but there's always lawn to mow and dead trees to cut into firewood or better, and weeds to pull.

Awesome weekend coming up...

Steve Kubien

>First there is the Galoot BBQ hosted by Darrell and Kathy LaRue in Oakville. There will be an operating forge and trebuchet (sp). Perhaps we can hurl modern Stanley planes into the street! The theme for the event is "Meat on a stick". That is for Saturday.

Sunday will find me attending the 30th anniversary tour of Rush. I am 33yrs old and I have only seen them in concert 7 times. I am ashamed of my efforts. :(

I haven't looked forward to a weekend this much in a long time.

See ya,Monday but I doubt I'll be able to hear ya!

>Back in the 70's they put on a hell of a show They were at the show Ted Nuget got ran out of KC for profanity that people heard 20 miles away. They had the stage at the wrong end of the stadium. OOps!

>I don't think anyone in my family has had the opportunity to get over to Lake Wales yet. Reports I have heard are that many are just beginning to get their power restored, and many are also still without telephone service. My aunt who lives there got her power back last night, and still does not have phone service, except cellular. She lost part of her roof, and almost all of their trees, some of which were already huge when I was a youngster. I've been checking, and will let y'all know as soon as I hear anything.

consider this a hijacking!

>I think you may be outta luck with a NJ date. I think Sunday is the last show of the tour. Heck, I think they are only playing 20-30 shows just to commemorate 30yrs together. If you like Rush, check out there new mini album of cover tunes. It's reeeeeeeally good. Neil Peart also has a new book on the shelves.

Ernie, they still put on a heckuva show. Ticket price, $27.50. Parking, $15.00. A Neil Peart drum solo, PRICELESS!

Take care,

>I mean Rush, Wait...Who's on first...Ahhhhhhhhh

Sound like a heck of time, I saw them back in the late 70's, I think or early 80's, foggy time in Scott's life.

Neal Pert, one of my Idols/want to be like drummer/percussionist.

Take it from an older dog that's played in bands and went to way too many loud concerts...

>Put my Inca 710 Bandsaw in the local classifieds this weekend, so I hope to be entertaining lots of interested buyers. I need to make room for my new Laguna LT18 that arrives next week (drive-by gloat). While I'm waiting, I hope to get the end caps attached to my bench top and bolt on the Record face vise. Then all that's left to do is mount the Veritas Twin Screw and oil the top. Can't wait. Been working on the bench since last November.

>I get to spend the weekend driving from Utah back home to Michigan ;-( Should be interesting. I am taking back a car that I had sitting in Utah that one of my kids in Michigan can use. I measured the thing and with my truck the whole thing is 40 feet long. Better make sure I don't get into a situation where I need to back it up ;-)

>I have to dimension some 8/4 red oak for the legs of a display stand I'm building to hold a time capsule. I'm making the stand in the form of a saw buck. The time capsule is cylindrical and will lie in the "V"s made by the crossbars.Just a rough plan in my head so far.I think this is going to be a fun project.Have a fun weekend---Jack

>I love the blues. I have some very soft spots for J.L. Hooker, Muddy, B.B., Eric Clapton, Elmore James, Buddy Guy, Mr Johnson......oh how I could go on.

Earplugs?!?!?!?!?! Ya know, the last time I saw Pink Floyd they were using a million watt sound system. That's right...MILLION. The sound was so clear and perfect my ears didn't ring one bit the next day.

Sitka wood, I remember printin' somethin' on 3x5 sheets of that wood at a printshop in Ketchikan, Alaska in the Summer of '71. Blue

>I'm going to the 100 year rededication of the town Civil War memorial this morning. As a small town it took Chester 39 years to be able to afford a monument after the war ended in 1865. All veterans are invited. I will also go over to the Furniture Institute of Mass this after noon in Beverly MA to visit Phil Lowe and his guest instrutors Doug and Ben from Shepherd Tools.

I will also be cleaning up some shop projects I need done like a rack to hang some of my bit braces and a hanger for my eggbeater drill. The rest of the weekend will be making hammer handles for my plane adjusting hammers. If time allows, I'll also be turning some tool handles.

Rush!

Don Thompson, Cutler Ridge, Florida

>I spent a couple of years at the U of Buffalo, and the Rochestericans turned me on to Rush, before they were known in the USA. I only got to see them once, down here in SoFla. It was 1978, I think, and they were the lead-in band for a Bob

Segar concert. Rush was like a rock commando squad - I was blown away. My buddy and I wanted to leave and skip the Segar performance, but our dates whined and made us stay.

My favorite album is probably the All the World's a Stage live album. (and favorite cut(s) the 2112 sequence).

Those guys must be old farts by now.

>Well,LOML has taken the plunge and left her job as a floral designer after 8 years in what she terms"The viper pit".

While recovering from surgery she was offered a job in construction(at a considersble increase in pay) by a friend.Seems it`s REALLY hard to find any help and the construction is booming up here.

My wife and I used to do roofing and carpentry when we were first married so she`s had some experience, although it was 20 years ago.Working with me has kept her up on the basics and she has an eye for detail. She works out every day so fitness is not a problem for her.She knows she`ll be alittle sore for the first week.

We`re off to look at workboots, toolbelts, and other way-cool accessories.I already talked her into buying the new Estwing hammer with the weight forward design, didn`t take much convincing.

I see a new flood of lighter, smaller tools coming into the shop.I`ve already donated a LA block plane to the cause and she`s eyeballing my extra Yankee screwdriver and push drill.I`m betting she`ll be paying alot closer attention to spotting tools at the flea markets from now on.:^)))
