Miter boxes

>Hi,

I finished cleaning up the miter box I got at a flea market. It's a Stanley 360A model. I managed to get all the little pieces back together and functioning properly. It's a nice tool. Most of the paint is intact with only minor pitting underneath from rust. All parts are present and functional(including two bars for holding stock against the fence and a slotted bar for hold down use attached to the back).Only problem--neither my 30" nor 26" Disston backsaw will fit it. The blade guides appear to be designed for a saw with 6" of blade beneath the back. The teeth of both my saws are in the guide, not under it when the back is resting on the bearings in the guide.

What I'm looking for is information on Stanley miter boxes. There's info available for the millers falls and langdon boxes but I can't find anything on Stanley. Help anyone?

thanks---Jack

>Hi Jack,

There's an Adobe Acrobat(tm) exploded drawing of a 1926 Stanley Miter Box (and other vintages) on Stan Faullin's website.

This website has been undergoing maintenance for a long time, and it may take patience! Hope this helps.

>Now I need another saw. I have two saws of the wrong width.

Now,if I could only find someone willing to do some swapping. I could trade my box for a comparable condition one that would fit my saw or trade one of my 4" saws for a 6" one.If I get a saw to fit I'll still need a box for the smaller saws. This slope gets complicated sometimes.---Jack
