Ebay fraud? *LINK*

Richard Gillespie

>I noticed this item when it was previously listed. A very rusty #6 plane 13" long. As you can see by the picture it is broken off at the mouth.

When it was previously listed I advised the seller of the problems with the item by email but they have chosen to re-list it without pointing out the problems.

Ebay apparently doesn't have the interest in pointing out listing fraud unless you are a buyer already burned. Therefore I've chosen to show it here.

Somebody has bid on it, I hope they know what they're doing.

>for pointing out the problims i was going to bid on it thinking it was about mint,..Wheww that was close!...Come on now do you think anybody that doesn't have a white cane and a German Shepard will be bidding on this thinking it is anything but a rusted and busted in half plane? Don't see how it is fraud as you are clearly shown what you are bidding on.If you or I can tell what it is so can anybody else who sees the photo.Don't see how ebay could moniter every auction to check for "Fraud" befor they even get any complaints. I would like them to kick off and keep off dead beat bidders after they get complaints...Todd

bidding over and...

...eBay is a wonderful world all unto itself where I go to find items of interest to me. Good therapy too.

>No Richard I don't think so either. If the seller had tried to drum it up as a rare speciality plane than perhaps yes, but than again perhaps no as it might of been an honest mistake.

I think what we have here is a case where the seller dosen't know that it is a broken plane, which would tell me that the craftsman who filed off the brokens ends did a very food job of it. Looks lie the winning bid was $5, which if I found it at a flea market I'd of picked up as the spare parts would be worth that. what really kills it for me is the $8.50 add'l for S&H.

Seller definately needs to be a bit more realistic with the description of "some rust" tho eh?

Certainly not saying that sellers don't intentionally misrepresent tools and that to me is fraud, but than again, the golden rule is Buyer Beware eh?

Ahhhhhhhhhh the pro's and cons of e-bay, gotta love it.

Gotta be with Todd on this one

>Even if you emailed the seller and told him it was broke and they knew nothing about tools what makes them want to beleave you when you tell them that it is broke. You could be a bidder hoping to have somthing negitave posted in the addd hoping to scare off other customers. they don't know you so why should they beleave you when you say it is broke?

>The plane is broken off at the mouth, is very rusty and the tote appears to be broken.

My problem with the listing is that they say "Shows some rust but all else appears to be intact."

I feel that is a very misleading statement, especialy to an inexperienced buyer. When this item was previously listed the above problems were emailed to the seller.

>it IS buyer beware out there.

However, just because those around you seem to be less than honest doesn`t mean it`s cause to compromise your own ethics.

Thanks for being such an honest guy and for also bringing it to our attention.

Close... It's more like a 1/2-6.

>I get emails quite a bit from people telling me about what i am selling that are 100% wrong. Had a 191 Rabbet plane listed which i described as complete and a fellow emailed me to tell me it wasn't complete since it was missing the fence.I pointed out that if ever had a fence I would be curious as to how it was attached as it doesn't have a threaded hole and Stanley never showed a 191 with a fence in any of thier catalogs...Emailed me back that he was thinking of a 78[!]....Pretty common to have people email that the caulking irons i am selling are really stone chisels....and vice a versa.....Todd
