Blades for a Record #044

Derek Cohen (in Perth, Australia)

I'm looking for blades for a Record #044. I don't think that any other planes' blades are interchangeable with this plough plane - or are they? Can anyone tell me where I can buy a few? Bugbear?

Regards from Perth

A few weeks ago Pam suggested 'Pennyfarthing' in England. I took her advise and bought a 043 for 40 pounds. Pam said they have a very large supply of Records and I got that sense as well.

Regards,

Stanley #50 blades will fit - they also have grooves on the lower surface. The Stanley adjuster is a cruddy lever, while the Record's is a screw. but the grooves are compatible.

Many UK dealers may have a s/h set - price unknown.

Alternatively, Ray Isles makes and sells them.

From his tool list #18:

RI012 New irons for 044, set of eight. N 28.00 $39.20

(you might need to email - his website is a MESS)

I believe it's on hold, possibly forever, but at least while he's trying to get his #073 shoulder plane ready. Email will work though, 'cos I bought a replacement spokeshave blade from him not long back.

Cheers, Alf

I've bought blades from him and I'm very happy with them. (No affiliation, just a happy customer etc.)
