A new Etch, and a new trick

>Been futzing about trying to learn how to hyperlink. I think I done fiqured it out as I've sent some hyperlinks to myself and they worked. Thought I'd try it here as well, and thought I'd send a link of something of interest. Hope it works.

>That is a nice saw I have one that I carry in the van for when I go dumpster diving at the trim factory and the wood is to long to carry safely just a quick cut and an 16' board is 8' I allways leave the trim long but boards are a differant story. This morning I picked up 2 14' peices of white oak bar rail They stick out the back of the camaro about 3' but I can live with that. I prefer Atkins saws for my users except the #4 back saws.

Don't get yerself all twitterpated. Get out the paper bag, and breathe into it for at least 45 minutes. If that doesn't calm you down, I'm not sure what will... *grin*

(In technical terms, I suspect since you've already "visited" that link the color is not what you expected. But it did work correctly, you got a link.)

Cheers,

Greg

Optional Link URL:

Don Thompson - South of Miami

>Todd,

Since you have raised the issue of links - why do you not ever use the "Optional Link URL:" and "Optional Link Title:" features on the Post Response page?

Try this'n sometime, Todd-O...

Scott in Douglassville, PA

><a href="http://pasteURLhere.com">Some text to link</a>

This is a hypertext reference tag. Useful if you're linking inline, or have more than one link for a post. The a stands for anchor, for what that's worth. Also, if you want to be tricky (or annoying, depending on your vantage), format the tag thusly:

<a href="http://pasteURLhere.com" target="blank">Some text to link</a>

The target="blank" after you paste the URL, which'll force the link into a new window.

Now I just hope all those stankin' brackets show up right...

Another Attempt at cut and paste *LINK*

>This is suppose to be to a E.C. Atkins whatzit. Looks like a device to hold the two ends of a bandsaw blade together while soldering.

Thanks for all the assistance in trying to teach me this. I want to be able to do it just to make it easier to share info with everybody. I know that everybody probably knows how to cut and paste a URL, but just be able to click on a Link is so much nicer. I know that I like it. Also seems to me that it is a basic computer function and should be known, except of coarse to me, who is once again, as usual is a square peg trying to fit in a round hole. I have no desire to be tricky or annoying, tho I fear that I may being so. Thanks for your patience while I bumble about.

I'll see if I can give you a tutoring lesson. It might be a day or two tho.

I assume you want it to act as it was when fixed by Ellis? Right?

Let me know.

Thanks,

Greg

>I see Scott has done the tutoring...

Excellent reference. You might cut and paste that into a text file on your machine for future reference.

Don't feel bad about not remembering. I do computer work for a living and I can't remember how to do href's when I need to either. Everytime I have to pull out the cheat sheet and figgur' it out too.

(Disclaimer: I *don't* do HTML work on a daily bases - I've got some dignity don't I?! I'm morally opposed to those HTML "programmers" as many like to (mis)call themselves! What's wrong with saying you do web design?)

Cheers,

Greg

Besides, I think I'm getting addicted to dog sheet. ;~)

Ahhhhhhhhhh well, hopefully somebody got a laugh out of it all eh.

Looks like I've got the cut and paste method fiqured out---Thanks Scott, now I need to work on the other way.

Thanks all, especially Ellis, who e-mailed me off line and basically said "Flail away Toddy Ol' Man to yer little hearts content and I'll be standing by right here waiting to fix your botchery before you totally foul up my boards beyond all recognition". What a Sport is our Ellis eh? :~)

Hey Scott

>The only thing that you have to watch when using the codes for the brackets is NOT to do a preview post, or it will change them all back into the actual characters and it messes up your post. DAMHIKT ;-)

>In these cases, I "edit" my post into a text editor, say notepad or some other.

Then I paste it into the browser window and preview.

It it was what I wanted, I paste again without changes and post. If not change the text editor copy and lather, rinse, repeat.

Greg

Reference...

Scott in Douglassville, PA

>This here's a pretty good tutorial and reference for basic HTML for anyone who may be wanting one. Not hard to learn; just need to start thinking in tags instead of formatting buttons.

And, I agree - I equate HTML with word processing. It's not that you're programming a computer to do anything; you're inserting actual formatting tags inline, instead of applying them transparently. It's text formatting. Period.

To me, anyway...
