Writing Box Plans?

Howard In Toronto

>Hi all -

I just posted this on the other WC forum.

FWW had plans for the Thomas Jefferson portable writing box a while back.

I've "googled" writing box, writing slope and a number of related terms, but I can't really find anything of note.

I'd rather study a few existing photos and combine different details - does anybody know of good places to find nice examples and/or plans?

Thank you.

Howard

Try also: Antique Boxes: The Online History of Antique Boxes and Tea Caddies

If my address book is still current, their web address is: www.hygra.com

I've seen no plans on their site, but they have many pictures of beautiful examples of several different styles of boxes. I've been able to draw my own plans from just their pictures and descriptions.

I regard myself as something of a specialist at web searching.

Try reviewing the results of this google search

I also have (somewhere in my magazine stash an American magazine that had a detailed plan. I think this would have been in the mid 1980's, and the magazine was quite shaker-and-mission furniture oriented.

Try FWW Archives

>You might give FWW archives a look, seems I saw an article about the 13 original liberty trees somewhere around DC. IIRC, they might have been chestnut. Anyway, the park service had to remove one and the wood was supplied to a craftsman who built a faithful reproduction of the Jefferson Desk. If there aren't plans in the article it might lead you to find out if the drawings of the desk have been published.

Sorry for the vagueness of my recollection.

>With apologies for the delay.

I rummaged in my pile, and found the magazine.

With the magazine in front of me (google can't find this) I found:

Shaker lap desk

and (next to it)

small pine table top writing desk
