>Jim -

I got one about 3 months ago. I like it - for simple grooves (with the grain), it's quick to setup and works well. I haven't used it for rabbets, I use a 778 for that. And without nickers, it won't do cross grain work. Still, for what it does, it does do it well.

It's great if you want a simple plough plane, cos' that's what it is.

If you ever opt to make beading or fluting blades for a 044 for sale, please let me know - I'll buy a set.

Making Beading blades for a #044 seems more work than is required.

>Hi Jim,

I just received mine in the mail from an ebay seller in England.I took it apart, cleaned it up,and cut drawer bottom grooves in the sides of a drawer I'm building. What a useful little bugger.I really hated making that groove with a tablesaw.I can see that tool having a place close to hand on my shelf.---Jack

Xactly what I think

jim_reed@marietta

>It takes time for me to set up the router table and then it takes time to clean all the dust out of my hair and sweep the shop. I think hand planed grooves are the way to go for a single drawer project.

>A 50 is a better plane because it has beading blades too.

The #050 is a more versatile plane, but the #044 is a more balanced, convenient handy plough.
