Double Claw Hammer Real or Fake? *LINK*

David Miller from Iowa

>The seller, Art of Steel, has an interesting 1 piece doubleclaw here. Since the the vintage ones were two piece (no way to drop forge this confugation as one piece), and this one looks recently milled with an ill fitting handle, I'm wondering if it is recently manufactured from two hammers. If that was indeed true, I guess there is nothing wrong with it, provided there are no misleading remarks about the makers provenance...

Any opinions?

Looks Fake....

>to me, made by taking two hammers cutting the one off and welding it to the other.Doesn't look very well made to me, not quite sure why they didn't keep the bottom eye extension on the bottom hammer would have looked better.Don't know the seller so i don't know if they know better or not but will point out that this is an "AS IS " auction and you you are stuck with what you buy that and a high starting price,[never can figure that out] and I think Art better look for some nails that need a pulling.....Todd

What a lucky guy.... *LINK*

>Link is to a previous auction by the same seller.

WOW!

He's been lucky enough to find not just one, but two double claw hammers that we all know are "unique" and "truely a fine collectible".

Someone quick! Look up the definition of unique.

I think it has to do w/being one of a kind.

Who'da thunk Dallas would be such a hot bed of collectable tools.

Yup,...But.......

>How do you know you can't hang a fake one on a Peg Board?.....Ebay one might be right but I think the fact that it is not a two piece head and looks funny just like two heads welded together with a non factory handle along with the seller having sold another last month just looks kind of Suspicious to me...Todd

Fake or not, looks like cr@#

Roy from Cincy

>Whether it is fake or real, who would want it? I was told by a much wiser collector of antiques than me that just because something is old doesn't mean it's valuable. It's got to have other things as well such as design aesthetics, quality construction, condition, rarity and if your lucky, some provenance. If you're buying off "da Bay", you certainly won't get provenance. This particular item is also short on design aesthetics, quality construction, condition and rarity, so authenticity is getting to be a moot point. O.K., that's my rant. I'll shut up now.

>Actually a real double claw hammer has about everything you could want in a collectable tool.First it is pretty rare but not so rare that you will never have a chance to find one but not so common that you don't want one.Is pretty cool looking and pretty high on the "Neato Gizmo" scale...hey who couldn't love a hammer that has two claws!? Plus a legit one is pretty easy to tell since it is in two places and most have a patent date on them, see one like that pretty safe to say it's legit.Lastly easy to display and not to big.Actually a pretty big demand for legit ones think I got around $200 for the last one I sold.....Todd

And the real ones

Clay C in Miami

>While the real ones also look odd, they look better than this, and are also obviously designed for actual use of both claws, unlike this monstrosity.

>I've actually tried out an original befor just to see and they don't work very well at all.Putting a block of wood under the head works better.....In my experance most tools inventions that work well are pretty common it is the "answears looking for a problim" ones that are rare and often vaulable just because no one wanted them originaly.....Todd
