OT: Greetings

Dave Thompson - Champaign, IL

>Hey guys, Two weeks ago, I started lurking here on woodcentral. I was plesantly surprised to see all of the familiar names that I use to talk with on Neanderthal Haven all continuing to have discussion virtually unchanged from years ago. Having been away for so long (three years), it felt like a time warp.

Eight months ago, my wife gave birth to twin boys. That's been consuming just about all of my spare time. Just before they were born I was able to put together an oak diaper changing station... Only in this forum would I not be marked as an eccentric if I said I made the dados for the panelled doors using a wooden plow plane. The rest of the time is spent working on trim for an unfinished victorian style house we moved into 2.5 years ago. While I was surface jointing alot of the inside trim with a jack plane, primarily because I preferred the exercise, I've finally given way to having less play time and shifted jointing to the noisy side.... Not to mention that surface jointing jatoba even with a LN#5 is a pain.

While I don't think I'll be able to participate in this forum with any regularity like I have in the past, I just wanted to send greetings, and will continue to lurk with occasional outbursts from the back.

warm regards,

Dave

>Lucky you, twin boys!I guess you don`t have to worry about those handtools going to any strangers. You now have a perfect excuse for buying two of everything.Gotta keep the peace you know.

Glad to hear from you again.I`m sure you`ll find at least afew excuses to post from time to time,if for no other reason than to pick up tips on restoring that old house.

Now if we could just tear Mick away from his paperwork...

>Dave,

Nice to see your name again.

I vividly remember, after our second son was born (four years apart, the two - I just flat can't imagine two of them at the same time! But the wonder of biology is that you call on whatever strength is needed to do the parent work), a conversation with LOML in which we agreed that our relationship would be kind of idling until the boys were old enough to be less work; I also remember answering, whenever someone asked, "How are you?" answering "Tired."

I sympathize, in other words, even though they're now adults (28 and 32). I'm amazed you can find time even to visit, but will look forward to your posts as your time and energy permit.

Bill

>Dave,

Good work! Spending time--any sort of time--with your children is the most wonderful, and certainly the most rewarding thing anyone can do. In my book shop time is a distant second.

Twin boys. Great! Getting them in twos will get your team in the game in no time--or fill your shop with eager helpers.

How about posting some pictures?

Alan
