Scraper plane?

Ernie Miller Topeka

>How well do you think a plane like this would hold up? Would the blade be wedged like it sits or resting against the back of the frog like a normal plane? do you think that the blade sits against a small ledge on the sides? wouldn't this lead to alot of chatter? Just thinking Thanks

>A very interesting pic there Ernie. I haven't seen one like it before, but it gets the old wheels turning just a little bit now doesn't it? I would think the blade would be wedged against the back of the mouth and not the front, and the height of the notch in the sides would determine how long the balde would last, but if you had 3/4" to sharpen I would think a blade would probably last a decent amount of time, the notch in the sides would have to come up 3/4". The grain on the sides would have to be good and I think the plane would be pretty sturdy if it was done right, but I wouldn't want to drop it on it's toe. Looks like a pretty nifty idear.

I was wishing for a plane just

Frank Mutchler

>like that one, Ernie. I wanted to scrape two boards that meet at a 22 1/2 deg. angle to clean up the join area a bit. My LV scraper doesn't extend all the way to the edge like yours does. I did what I wanted to do using my Clifton 3 in 1.

I would think that the wedge would go on the tote side of the opening...just like you show it in the picture. That way, the blade is tilted forward to allow the burnished (rolled) edge to cut. Let me know if it's for sale ;>)

>Interesting one. I have plans for converting a wooden coffin smoother which is vaguely similar but nothing as far gone as that.

Small Scraper

Frank Mutchler

>Hi, Todd. I need a small scraper so infrequently that I haven't been able to convince myself to purchase the LN cabinet scraper....it's just the ticket for those special jobs.

Me too!

Frank Mutchler

>I wasn't expecting a lot from the LV 112 and was very pleasantly surprised. It's a joy to use on anything notty or crazy grained that comes out of the planer with some tearout. I was sanding some cherry and figured it was taking too long and so I passed the 112 over it....it ate the tear out up and left a shimmering pink tinted surface ;>)

>I like the 112 too, ...right up until I have to scrape into a corner. Then I don't like it so much.
