You free for lunch? I have to go to Lee Valley!

Randy in Langley

>I definitely think that if Lee Valley had a guy outside the door selling Smokies and Pop I could spend more quality time with the tools I love on my lunch break...

>Hey Randy,

Not today. I'd by an ALaskan Chainsaw mill if I did ;) ;)

Didn;t you make a mess last time you were there?

Dan CLermont in Burnaby

>Last time Randy and I met at LV on a lunch break he was making shavings with A spier's plane I had in tow.

Quite the mess by the time we left and LV needs to put more plane blade striking hammerson display cause we had a hard time finding one ;)

Re: Easy decision

>Just to make everyone nuts, I live in an area of Toronto called the Beaches. Right by the lake. Water. Beautiful breezes. Moderate temperatures.

25 minutes to the east is the Scarborough LV store.

40 minutes to the west is the West Toronto/Steeles LV store.

And every now and again when I go out to visit family in Burlington(suburb to the west of Toronto, about 45 minutes away), what do I find?

Ooops! Another LV store.

Sorry, but I get to gloat so rarely :-)

HIJACK: Consumer Shopping Patterns

Inquiring minds want to know!

Re: HIJACK: Consumer Shopping Patterns

Rob Lee

>Hi -

This is where the consumer will go to the retail location, pretty much no matter where it's located... the business is a "destination" - as opposed to a mall, shopping center, or power center (a cluster of big box stores).

IKEA is a good example - people will drive very long distances to shop specifically at that store, though they may plan to visit others at the same time.

Power centers are sort of a collection of destination-type boxes... HD, Costco, Staples etc.

Hey we just got an IKEA! How about..

Eric Hedberg

>putting a Lee Valley Store between it and the Mall of America across the street? It's at the end of a new light rail system and next to a major highway. Our weather is even Canadian like. Location, location, location right? Eric :-)

Yes ... We've got 2

Ed Thomas, Leaside (Toronto) Ontario

>Lee Valley stores in the Toronto area. And I'm pretty much equidistant (30 min drive) from both. Best way to leave the city is to head straight North between them. That way the force of attraction is in balance. ;-)

Steve, I'm about 15 minutes NW from The Beach and you. Might come down to catch some jazz this weekend.

What kind of Minnesotan are you?

Bill Houghton, Sebastopol, CA

>Eric,

Isn't it more correct to say that Canada's weather is "kind of like Minneosta's, but not quite as crisp" ?

A friend of mine says that the proper Minnesota response to the thermometer reading absolute zero is "Getting kind of cool; guess I'd best put a sweater on."

Good lookin with a strong wife and above avg kids

Eric Hedberg

>Bill,

You are right. I was just trying to shamelessly appeal to Rob's Canadian biases. Unfortunately, I don't think he'll go for it. Minnesota is an interesting weather state. My father inlaw visited twice one year. It was -35 (windchill not included) during the winter visit and +110 during the summer visit. He hasn't been up here again since. You can just imagine what that does to wood up here. Gives a new appreciation to "allowance for wood movement";-) Not a place for those who like temperate climates.
