BCTW HP6 Multi Plane *LINK*

John Kissel

>Hi,

I'm curious to hear any thoughts about the new multi rabbet plane being offered by BCTW. Putting price and aesthetics (and heavy advertising hype) aside I'm mainly interested in hearing opinions on functionality. It reminds me of the old pattern makers plane that had interchangeable blades and soles. The potential is there to also design and create soles of your own choice using a hard wood and blade blanks. I'm sure there a quite a few folks out there who could make one themselves by drilling and tapping an old record 077 or something similar but my time for fun is fairly limited and I like to spend it on woodworking whenever possible. Thanks to Roger Nixon for putting the heads up on his Traditional Tools forum.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Regards,

JK

Perhaps

>Maybe it would work well. #1, I think it is too small. I really enjoy the closed tote as in #78 rabbet, #46 dado, and #45 combo. #2, The main problem with combo tools is set up time. It will be interesting to see the bases they come up with.

>I have to agree with you there Jim......I'm a big BCTools fan but I do like one tool to do one job. I'm after one of their chamfer planes and was tempted by this new plane, but like you said its the set up time with these things. I'd like to just pick it up and go.......

It will be interesting to see what else they can make it do.
