Cover your eyes (ebay) *LINK*

>At first I thought maybe this seller knew what they were doing, then realized when they referred to the #9 plane as "Unknown" they really didn't have a clue. If you dare follow the link, cover your eyes; these pictures are not for the weak of heart. I don't normally post in progress auctions but couldn't resist this one.

>Hope these guys never sell a vintage car collection...

"Unknown car, possibly home-built, so NR!!!. Missing left-side windshield, fenders, and all running lights. Cosmetically OK (odd shade of blue), but previous owner added 'racing numbers' and his name in several places (Bugatti)..."

But seriously, Moses...why would anyone bid on an incomplete #9 (no hotdog) or an obviously used 10-1/4?

Something tells me this will not be an auction for bottom feeders.

...and, hold your breath

>Breathtaking. Pretty bizarre. In fact, about the most bizarre presentation by any ebay seller I've seen yet. All my alarms went off. Then I looked at the array of other current auctions and saw three more equally startling package deals. Since these are put up by a fairly high volume trading assistant, I suppose the key question of a paranoid like me would be about whether the planes are in the possession of the trading assistant...or just the photos.

California Tool Heaven

>I see these planes are coming out of California.....Ahh just more proof that I live in an Old Tool Hell here on the other coast.Slogged though 5 yard sales this morning and didn't see one tool other then a rusty brace and a cheap bench vice that if I dropped it I wouldn't bend over to pick it up....

Did buy 60 tractor and farm magazines from the 1910-20's though from an attractive wealthy woman that told me she has a big building full of tools and old stuff that belonged to her father that she told me she might sell after i talked her up some.I knew her Dad and he was a collector of the highest order of Cars and Amusment park stuff....Well have to go light some candles and say some prayers!.....Todd

Estate planning

>While I am too paranoid to bid my guess is that he is just a clueless seller who convinced some heir of a good collector that the stuff is worthless and the right way to sell it is in big groups on ebay - or he bought the collection for a song from a similar clueless inheritor.

I get emails weekly from someone disposing of an estate and has no idea what to do with the stuff (I send them to various auctioneers I don't deal myself in antiques except as a buyer)

In any case the lesson here is that anyone with a decent number of tools, should make provision should anything happen so that the heirs know who to call and that selling the tools properly is a important estate asset. Identifing a few people to be called is important. My wife for example (and I hope not to kick the bucket anytime soon) has the names of a few auctioneers who I like and I think will treat her well. Just picking a name at random like the owner of these tools did is just dumb.

It's not just we all hate seeing good old tools go to the dumpster, a tool collection is a valuable asset that can appriecate if maintained (read oiled) and in some cases is a very valuable asset and proportion of the estate.

>Good advice...but I bet this group of tools will go very well,[several $1,000 at least].I am sure they will do much better then if sold in a live local auction or even a dedicated tool live auction. I am sure the owners that are selling them will be VERY happy.... While it could be the ebay seller that decided on the stratgy to put them all up together it could be just as likely the owner that didn't want to pay the ebay seller the costs to list the planes seperate for him since most Ebay sellers charge a fee for each auction they list for a customer......Todd

>Care to share anything else such as an address or phone number rh Toddy ol' buddy, ol' pal, or are you hoarding this one for yourself? ;~)

Did her offer to "talk her up" have more than one meaning?

you never did tell me why you made a spring from a chisel ya' know. It's been a week now, and I'd like to get a full nights sleep pretty soon.
