#8 plane manu. date *LINK*

>I picked up a #8. The only place that it says Stanley is on the blade. If it's Stanley the cap-lock is pre-1933. There is not Stanley or Bailey anywhere on the body of the plane, just a #8. There are no frog adjustment screws but I don't know if a battleship like this would have them. Anyone have an idea about it's age, other than pre-1933?

Thanks!

>Since there is no Bailey anywhere and no frog screws sounds like its a pre type 9, so the plane was made prior to 1902.

To accurtately date the plane you cant go by the blade as they are commonly replaced. Are there any dates on the lateral, if it has one. Any letters such as B or S under the frog or on the lever cap. Any dates on the cap iron. Left hand threads on depth nut?

I forgot, lateral adj. has STANLEY on it.

>That clears up the maker question. I should have wrote that down instead of trusting my memory. There's no hang hole but I have to replace a busted handle. Still mini-gloat for picking it up for $45.
