Slippery Slope

>I think this week end pushed me over the edge. A year ago I had 2 planes, a defiance my father gave me and a block plane I have had for 30 years. Friday I had 9 including a few wooden jointers and a transitional. Saturday I purchased a #7 bailey and a #7 bailey corrugated, along with a #5 bailey. In addition another defiance(4?) and a #5 tradesman were in the package. No broken or cracked totes or knobs and only minor rust. Seemed like a great deat for $60! What do you think?

Good deal

>Sounds like a good deal to me. Remember that you are not considered a collector until you lose count of your stash. Good luck on your slide down the slope.

>Jim,

So the older I get, the closer I become to being a collector? At this rate, in a couple of years I might even be a collector of kids; and I've only got two--I think.

I think 'amassing' planes is a great thing to do. They aren't all that expensive (if your standards are low enough) and they look great in a shop. I think I like buying planes almost as much as using planes.

>Bob,

Two points...First of all, welcome to the Knuckle-Draggers-Anonymous-Association whose theme song could well be "Slip, Slide, and Away".

Second, yeah, that sounds like a pretty good haul. Remember, it is a good deal only if you thought it worth it at the time. Could you have gotten cheaper? Maybe. Would it take more time and $$$ in gasoline? Probably. Are you happy? If so, then yes, it is a great deal.

Have some fun and make some shavings!

>Guess that means I'm gulp... A collector! Naaaaaaaaa can't be, it can't be so. Better go count the ones under the bed and get a total quick.
