Shop-made sharpening jig

Ray Browne

>Hello, I'm running seriously low on funds with a lot of travel going on at the moment and would like to make some sharpening jigs out of 2x4s or the like. I was hoping someone could help me with figuring out the right angle to cut the wood at? I plan on resting the iron on the wood block and running the blade over sandpaper(scary sharp method..) with the wooden part being moved on the part of the granite tile not covered by sandpaper. Below is a ascii drawing of the block I'm imagining as viewed as an upright piece from the side. I could hold the plane on the block w/ a screw through one of the holes on the iron.

I tried just following the bevel on the irons/chisels but it didn't work out so well, any help is appreciated.
