Had to build something quick.

Had to build something quick.

Ed Snow

>We were in need of a box to put all of my grandmothers birthday cards in for her suprise party. Clearly, I had no choice but to build a little box, quickly.

I didn't want to build a normal box so I made the top lap strake, a technique I will use in the future.

Unfortunately, I gave here the finished box without taking a picture. Box is catalpa and mahogony.

>Ed,

Out of interest, I'm not familiar with the term 'lap strake'.

Could you elaborate?

>Sure wish you had taken another shot of it, like maybe when it was presented to Grandma. Looks to be a nifty little box tho. Did Grandma like it? Are you still at COR?

>Andrew,

'Lap Strake' is a method of boat construction, specifically planking the hull. Think of a Viking type of boat. The planks are bevelled on their edges and overlap each other much like shingles or bevelled siding on a house.
