WW Sites of Interest in Maine?

Mark Meier (Ann Arbor, MI)

>I'll be travelling to Maine this Thursday and will be there through Sunday afternoon. I'm hoping to visit a few interesting woodworking related locations. I'll be going by L-N on Saturday. Anyone out that way have other suggestions? (I'm staying in Portland and Rockland but am free to drive around).

Thanks in advance,

Mark

>You should probably stop and take a look at the Center for furniture Craftmanship in the Rockport/Camden area. It is just eight miles up the highway from LN. They always enjoy visitors and its a pretty nice place.

Also there is a great flea market every weekend on Hwy 1 around Damariscotta. Get there early. And just south of there a couple miles is the Shelter Institute that has wood butcher tools. They have a good bit of tools and a great library of books for sale.

There are lots of people with antiw=ques and sell tools out of their barns and shops. Just north of Camden in Lincolnville is a fellow who makes and sells Windsor chairs and you can tour his showroom which is pretty extensive and his shop. He also is selling Shaker Furniture now.

And Camden and Rockport are very nice. Lots of good eats and the waterfront is very nice.

Have fun.

>If you`re interested in wood boats, swing into the Maine Maritime Museum in Bath on your way north on RT 1.The Maine state museum in Augusta also has some interesting pieces to draw inspiration from.Camden also has afew WWing galleries and there`s always the yachts to look at while you`re down by the waterfront.

I almost forgot the Thomas Moser gallery in Freeport.I`m assuming you`ll be stopping at LL Bean`s anyway,it`s just up the street.

Rust hunting is a whole other set of directions.Contact me offline if you need those.

>Thanks, Bob. I've been to that maritime museum in Bath about 6 years ago. Fascinating. I remember being amazed at how many of those ships wound up wrecked! The Moser gallery should be interesting as well.
