>I finished up a pair of cherry side tables for my sister. Hand tools pressed into full use, I did however use the bandsaw to resaw the 8/4 cherry, otherwise it was "Wheaties Power" all the way! :-)

Comments are welcome, be honest, I'm always looking for insight.

Finish is oil - homebrew wiping varnish - rubbed out with 0000 wool and wax.

Cheers!

>My first hand cut dovetails on a "real" project....

I cheated and cut through dovetails in the poplar drawer and glued on the cherry faces... Next time I'll have the guts to to half-blind...

Nice work

>Dean,

I wouldn't worry too much about those dovetails.Noone will ever notice or care that they're not half blinds. The tables look perfect to me. I like the drawer bottoms. So much better than plywood.I removed some painted shut drawers from an old farmhouse(someone had built around them)and the bottoms were identical to yours.

What are those knobs? Wood or hardware?

>Dean, Those are some really nice tables. And the dovetails look great. In all, excellent craftsmanship.

Since you asked, my critique will focus on the design. These kinds of tables have all sorts of variations and I kind of prefer the less squared off look. A slight taper on the inside edges of the legs and maybe the underside of the top would make them a little less clunky looking IMHO. Maybe the top could hang out a tad further as well. If you really wanted a lighter look, a shallower drawer would contribute, but function comes first.

>I think you have a lucky sister. Would you consider adopting a brother? Very nice job. Did you say this is your first "useful" project? I like the dovetails I can't get them that nice with my Leigh jig.
