marking gauge prototype-1

>I've been busy in the shop making some prototype tools and thought I would share a couple of them with you. This first one is a re-design of a marking gauge I made awhile back. This gauge moves the captured thumbwheel to underneath the beam and it uses a brass nut to fix the marking blade rather than a wedge. It still uses my idea for a wedge shaped beam cut from a circular cross-section and the brass shoe pushing against the radiused lower surface. The thumbwheel activates the brass shoe. I kept the same basic shape of the marking gauge as the original as I really like how it fits in the hand. This gauge was made from highly figured western walnut. I have an additional picture showing the brass nut detail.

>Very nice gauge Dave. As fine as your other work. Love that walnut too.
