Measure twice, cut once, glue back together

jim_reed@marietta

>I think 90% of my woodworking is fixing mistakes, so I am much better at that than anything else. My latest project is a cherry slant front secretary desk. I spent a few days gnawing the cornice moulding out of two cherry planks. I had only a few cuts to make and all of them went well except one where I cut exactly 2" too short (don't ask!). Before the sap dried, I butt jointed the wounded piece back together and left it to recover. Today I am putting finish on the top and I defy anyone to find my booboo.

Measure twice?

Sanford Levy

>I never quite got this measure twice stuff. I don't find it cuts down on mistakes very much at all since my second measure is as likely to be wrong as my first. I find measuring twice just means I spend more time screwing around before I inevitably screw up. I think it is best to measure once and to do it quickly so that you can get on to the real work of woodworking as quickly as possible: fixing and working around mistakes! Sanford

>Is it in the back there where all the clamps are? how do you expect up to really see any thing in that picture. It is nice looking work though.

>Measuring twice does me no good as the two measurements always come out different. What I do is measure THREE times and then take an average. :)
