Fred's Compressor

Todd O. Cronkhite Native of Maine

>A friend of mine told be that Fred's, which is a store similiar to Big Lots had an air compressor for sale for $50. I went to check on it tonight, but they haven't arrived yet, so I got a raincheck. I did see the ad for just a second, and it said it was a 3 or 3.5 gallon. that's about all I know about it.

My qustion is this: Woul;d this make me a good compressor to do some light sand blasting with? I want to 'blast some planes after I zap them just to speed up the process of cleaning the rust out of the corners. the rust comes off easy after zapping, but you do have to be avle to get a wire brush on it, which can be a real pain, especially in the corners. All I want is a small siphon type blasting gun such as the one that Ecno has for $20.

funds are real short these days so I can't sprinf for a high $$ compressor. I don't know if this one has a pressure requlator or not either.

Anybody have experiance with one of these?

What pressure would I be wanting to do light 'blasting with?

>Short answer, you need to know the CFM@what pressure the tool you want to air power requires. Then you need a compressor that will do that. For what you want to do i would look around for local auto shop that has bead blast cabinet and see if you can use it for small fee.

>My sand blasting cabinet, which I no longer have, cost me about $100 from Harbor Freight and required 6 cfm@90psi. My 35 gallon, 6HP compressor only just gives me that... My compressor is about $300 new, of course I could probably find one at the local dump a lot cheaper...

>I doubt it I have the HF syphon type blaster and a 30 gallon 5 hp compressor and it will do the work but the compressor spends alot of time playing catch up. it is like blast for 1 minute wait for 2 besides it is a nasty messy biusness.
