>I'm writing a short bit for the magazine about Tom Law retiring from saw sharpening. One of the places he recommends is Steve Cooke in York, Penn., as referenced in the thread below.

I had a nice talk with Steve this afternoon and he really knows his business and says he'll basically sharpen anything. He'll be glad to sharpen your saws by hand or by machine, whichever you prefer.

Also, if you ever pass through the area, he has an old tool consignment shop there and sells reconditioned saws.

I couldn't resist.

For the non-collectible saws, he removes all the rust in an electrolysis tank, refurbishes the handles and sharpens them. A D8 will run you $35. I'll post a report when the saw shows up at my door.

I'm also tracking down another guy in Knoxville who might be willing to sharpen saws and post that information in the next couple days.

Chris, who is collecting *way* too much information these days that can ever be used in PW.

useful information

>Chris,

All that useful information left over after the magazine has it's fill,we can use it right here. Keep right on collecting.I appreciate the authentication about Cookes. I wasn't sure he was equipped to handle an influx of saws from woodcentral regulars.---Crackerjack

>Steve Cooke is ready for you.

He retired from the Navy in 1988 and has been sharpening since then. He's got a 7,400-square-foot shop and is certified by every saw blade manufacturer you could name.

If you're into the power side, he also will sharpen carbide, and even retooth a carbide blade -- no small affair.
