>On a recent trip back to New Zealand I had the chance to visit the "Lynn Woodwork Museum" in Ashburton on the South Island.

I think they had around seven Holtzapffel lathes there and also a Bowers rose engine turning lathe.

The photo here is of the Bowers.

These have to be the ultimate Neandertoy.

The Museum offers a scholarship of sorts for ornamental turning.

>Yep I got the book.

It is

Woodwork:My first seventy years

ISBN 0 473 01525 0

by Bob Lynn

If you can't track it down on the Net I can probably arrange some unsuspecting relly to get a copy over here.

My favourite bits were the discriptions of working Kauri and Rimu and the tests that trades people were put to upon hiring.

It has a fair bit on ornamental turning as well.

Let me know if you need help with it.

Alister.

>Drools about right....When I mentioned that My camera couldn't handle taking pictures thru the glass ....he told me to go inside the display case to get better shots...Its amazing the how complex and detailed for the era it was made....an enormous amount of work went into these.
