Krenov Planes *LINK*

Adam in Kingston

>Here are some Krenov style planes I finished this weekend. The one on the left is a coopering plane and has a convex sole. The one on the right is a smoothing plane. Making them is fairly straight forward and well worth the effort. For $60 for a blade (form rosewoodstudio.com) and some wood and a day in the shop, you end up with a plane that can perform with the best of them (my smoother takes 1-2 thou shavings). The nice thing about them is that you can tailor them to the job or your hands. Next up is a small jointer for veneer work. For those interested, I'm going to be posting an article at my website on how I make them. It should be up within the week so feel free to check.

>$60 for an iron is a lot more then Ron Hock charges for the irons he makes for the Krenov school. Are they better or different in some way? I am not familiar with the source you referenced.

>The Rosewood Studio is just outside Ottawa so that will be in peso de nord (Canadian bucks). The owner/chief instrustor was a pupil of Krenov's. I've heard good things about his school.

>Still big money. You can buy flat ground at the Metal Supermarket 01 for a lot less than that 3 feet of 2 1/2 inch wide and 1/8" was 56$ Canadian.

>At 108 Cliff Cr Kingston On, is there a level loading dock? I'm in the market for some nice tools, and you are just down the road.

If it's commercial, I understand, but if it's a hobby, I like to keep it secret like area 57.
