Walters Price on Bedrock planes

>Does anybody out there have the new Walter's book (green one)?

Can you tell me the going price on Bedrock 605 1/2's and 608's Type 5 onward?

Someone has quoted me $250 - $500 for the 605 1/2 which seems unreasonable compared to MJD and others. He also says the 608's are $200 - $500 which seems kind of high as well.

But then yet againwhat do I know except the price seems kind of steep compared to the old Walters guides and EBay

TIA,

Dan Clermont

>Apparently the new one is out. No one has it.... except the one guy I want to buy a tool from and he keeps giving me prices which are much higher then EBay, MJD and older guides.

Re: 604 H

>According to Walter's book there was no 604 H plane made. There was a 604-1/2 H made, which is worth $400-$600 dollars. This has an H cast behind the number, not just a war time model that someone says is "heavy". A 604 wartime model that has a heavier casting than the average may be worth a little more than $100-$110 that the regular #604 sells for, but I'm guessing if it's at a well advertised auction it will sell for a lot more than that because people want to show how much money they have to spend. Condition will determine the value of tools; you cannot value them without looking at the condition very carefully. If it actually is a 604 with the H cast behind the number, a lot of guys here would like to know.

>I said there was a "604-1/2 H" made, and I actually meant a 4-1/2 H, not the 604-1/2. According to Walter there was no Bedrock model with the H cast behind the number, unless I missed it. The "4-1/2 H" is worth $00-$600, I have never actually seen one that I can remember.

>Well I got my 605-1/2 for $20 at a local M-WTCA meet, so I think maybe his price on that is high. Like I said before condition really determines the value; the older and better condition, the higher the value, and condition is a very large part of the value; little nicks here and there, a pitted iron, and slight chips on the wood can make several hundred dollars difference. The 608 is a drool worthy plane, especially in the flat sides, and you would be very fortunate to get a decent one for $200, but you can get good users for $200-$300. The 605-1/2 for some reason consistently draws a lot of attention on e-Bay but around $120 I think is average, I could be off a little. My '96 Wlater lists the 605-1/2 at $75-$200 in flat sides and a little more in round sides, the 608 is $125-300, and round a little higher. I think the new Walters will probably reflect a higher demand for the flat top Bedrocks than the round sides; the flat tops are in much higher demand, so that when you have them in your tool box, people familiar with tools will instatnly know that you spent a bundle of money for that one; not because they perform better.

Re: It was a 604 1/2 no H

>It turned out to be a 604 1/2, no h and went for $170. It still had some label on the tote but fairly heavy surface rust, but didn't look pitted. They also sold a pretty nice #1 though the tote was cracked as well as missing the horn on top for $900. A #62 went for under $200. There weren't many bargains.
