>The lack of knowledge of tools shown by some sellers on Ebay can be very funny. In one case, I saw a #5 plane broken off at the mouth being described as an unusual plane in very good condition. The seller revised their description after I pointed out the problems with the plane.

It was

>Blade looks like its bevel up. Talk about bassackward assembly, but then I'm not one of those master craftsmen who uses tools of enourmous(sp) popularity. Maybe it was posted by that "visitor" to our site with spelling issues :-)

>Some e-bay definitions, as a public service:
Rare - I've never seen one before, and neither has my friend Bubba.
Good condition for it's age - So was my grandma at 100 but we didn't expect to get much work out of her.
Mint - You can still tell it's a plane.
Minty - I hope this makes me sound like I know what I'm talking about.
Collectable - Buy two more and you'll have a collection of them.
Good User - If you need a doorstop.
Vintage - True Value dosen't carry them anymore.
Stanley - Possibly made on the same planet that Connecticut is on.
LOOK!!! - I'm actually selling stuf on e-bay! Is this cool or what!?!?
Block plane - A small, medium or large wooden, transitional or metallic plane that is either made of a block of wood or was at least once in the same room as one.

Invented and built by Uncle Ralph before they adjusted his medication.

>It hits a little close to home for me. I bought my ECE Primus smooth plane on e-bay (for what Pam pointed out at the time, was not really such a discount as I thought it was) and had a lot of trouble getting it to perform well or at all, until the benevolent Mike Recchione was visiting and pointed out to me I had the lateral adjuster in bacwards.

>Thoes are key words that tip some of us off that the person selling the item dosen't know what they have and it might go cheap orrrrrrr it could have such an high opening bid that no one will ever open the page. At any rate if you would not look at any item with them wordas in the title or discription there will be one less person for me to bid against.
Recent Spat of Rare 45's on eBay
Brad in Ottawa
>I have never seen so many rare 45's as I have in the past few weeks. It's a shame that all of the rare 45's are hitting the market at the same time and driving the prices down!
I would also change the definition of prototype to include custom flaws or unintended modifications.
i.e. Brazed welding repairs, chipped/cracked totes, missing blades, tape on handles, missing frogs/lever caps, opened mouths, missing wedges, cracked/munged wedges, checking, etc...

>Avoid any garage sale with the term "HUGE" in the ad, even if the ad also contains the word "tools;" it will consist exclusively of broken beanie babies and slightly fungal tupperware. If it refers to tools in the ad, these will be 99-cent-box screwdrivers and, if you're lucky, one of those adjustable hacksaw frames missing the front section.

>Yes, this one is a fine example of a first class honest sale ad. I wonder why he/she fails to mention the large chunk of metal missing from the cheek on the away side of the picture? Perhaps that's what makes it in GREAT condition, as the ad screams.
