>Steve,
Try this link, it might help you out. there is a section just on miter boxes. a buddy just sent it to me the other day, and I haven't taken the time to look at it myself, but it looks to be a good
site.
I have a 50 1/2 and don't care for it as the guides where the saw back spline goes seems to be a bit sloppy. Try to find yourself a 60, or 358, or 460 model and I think you'll be happier. What color is your 50 1/2? Mine is green, but from what I understand they came in different colors.
the saw that came with my 50 1/2 from the flea market, for $10 and I think it is the original saw is 4 3/4" wide incliding the spline, and measuring just the teeth is 23" long. For this miter box, I think the spline has to be thick enough to engage the guides as it does in the other models to make it more accurate.

>I njust went back and checked out that site I sent you ad it seems to be all Millers Falls stuff. Does you miter box not have the brass ID plate? My does nd it has the sweetheart stamp on it, dating it to the 30's I beleive.
I've spent a few minutes plowing around on Google to find Stanley miter boxes, but have not had any luck. :~(

>Yes it has a brass plate and if the "sweetheart" is the SW under Stanley then it is. I bought it at an estate sale...but the saw went before the miter box :(...so I have no saw for it...but I located a Disston 22" back saw with a 4" depth. I hope it works.

>Ahh thanks Mike, I was there already trying to research the saw that was needed to complete the miter box. I just bought a Disston 22" back saw off ebay, and I hope that works. I couldnt really find any saw info or any info on that model. And no modern saws will work as the longest I could find was a 16". I'll have a total of about $40 into the miter box and saw. And it's a far cry from the plastic stanley that I currently have...lol.

>The book says the box was sold without a saw, but it states a 4" capacity, so the 4-3/4" saw might be a little bigger than the box was intended for but might only limit the height capacity a little bit.
