Don`t just stand there,pull something!

Bob Hackett

>For those of you who get lost in the sauce post wise. There seems to be a toolchest residing at Ernie`s house that is in need of our help. What we need is for the neanders to all pull together(pun intended)and volunteer to make and mail Ernie homemade drawer pulls so he can finish this fine project and move on to other things.Word has it that he`s got more than one of these in need so don`t be shy, step right up,and jump in on the WC"DON`T JUST STAND THERE,PULL SOMETHING" contest(batteries not included, some assembly required).

The winner will receive all the pulls Ernie doesn`t need. We`re not sure how the winner will be decided yet because we`re worried about Ernie right now.Quit sweatin` the small stuff will ya!

Me and Crackerjack are already committed(don`t go there)and I`m in the process of shaming Todd O into ponying up so...Sign up below.

OK,

Clay C in Miami

>I'll give it a go - looks like the drawers are narrow enough that one handle per drawer will do the trick - right, Ernie? Or, tools are heavy, do you want to have two per drawer?

>Lets get some basic dimensions down so Ernie doesn't end up with something unuseable in the end.

I'm thinking a nice Stanley #1 with two holes drilled clear thru.

>One handle per drawer is enough I'll give Bob my address or you can e-mail me direct. I need a total of 21 handles and I will wright in the bottom of the drawer who sent it and where it came from. I like that #1 idea it dosent even have to be a Stanley.

>That is one pretty table, sideboard whatever you want to call it Janderr. Hows about a little info on woods finishes. Is it your design? I've been planning something like that to park my TV on.

Scott, hijacking a thread again.

>I did a show with some folks, Asheville Arts & crafts Conference, and we chose Greene&Greene as the theme for our booth. So rather than than copy a Greene&Greene piece of furniture I decided to design my own and used some timber frame elements from the Gamble house to guide the design. I often approach furniture design using japanese timber frame as a guide. When I settled the design on paper I went wood hunting and found a wonderful 8/4 stick of African mohogany which then settled that issue. That stick provided the legs and book matched panels.

To finish I used multiple coats of linseed oil thinned with turpentine and rubbed on with a very fine powder of brick dust. To get the dust I pulverized a crumbling 100 year old or so brick and straied that through a fine mesh stainer. It works like rottenstone, filling the wood and polishing, but the brick's color is a better match for mohog and the mica in old brick gives a little sparkle, or so I like to believe. I finalized the finish with an orange tinted Dugay paste wax.

Historic pull on its way ... but where too?

Angus Barclay, in New Zealand

>I've found a real corker draw pull for Ernie. It even comes with documentation about its history.

Can anyone tell where I should send this historic piece of woodworking ephemera?
