WW sites around Portland ME

Frank D. in Montreal

>Hi everyone,

Just thought I'd ask for any WW-related sites that I shouldn't miss in the area of Portland. I know about the LL Bean outlet as well as the Lie-Nielsen factory in Warren (which I won't be visiting--my wife puts up with my LN purchases, so I won't rub it in...). Anything else?

Thanks for any info,

Leaving Friday,

Frank in Montreal

>The Center for Furniture Craftsmanship in Rockport has a new gallery and a show running there now.You can see some very nice antiques as well as a logging history exhibit at the Maine State Museum in Augusta. While you`re in Freeport visiting LL,be sure to go to the Thomas Moser gallery just up the street. The Maine Maritme Museum and apprectice shop in Bath is always good if you are interested in wooden boats.

I won`t even start on rust as I don`t want to be responsible for your wife being arrested in a foriegn country. We take assault with intent seriously here in Maine.;^)

Martin from Granbury

>Don't forget the Thomas Moser Gallery right up the street from LL Bean. Left side of the street, north (I think) just a couple blocks.

They used to give tours, but last time I was there, they said they suspended them because they are so busy they can't keep up with orders.

Beautiful furniture, sure wish I could afford to buy about half his catalog!

What's this rust you're talkin' about?

Frank D. in Montreal

>I'll avoid the shiny stuff but a little rust might be tolerated if, by chance, we just happen to walk by a rust shop. I thought the antique dealers might be a good compromise but if there's anything I should check out that's not too far from downtown, I don't think I'd forgive you for not telling me Bob. Here in Montreal it's so hard to find.

So spill the beans, please,

Frank

Maine visits.

Joe Rogers, Northern Virginia

>Consider this...if you visit L-N and don't buy anything, it will show your wife how much willpower you have. And you get to play with the new toys.JR

Or, if you do touch something that you can't leave behind, you can always just bring home flowers, too....

>Nice try guys,

But that would really be pushing my luck, and it would take more than flowers to save my butt. I'm going to hit the antique shops, though, since my wife likes antiques. Should find some really nice users in there!

>Frank,

If you go see Tom, perhaps you could use the Ol' "Look at the money I'll save in shipping fees" trick. Or at least the fool proof 10% off for buying right there. convince her it is like a Sale, and you get a shiney new toy! :~)

>Now cut it out Tdd!!!

If this keeps up I'll come up with a rigged mapquest printout that sats I have to drive through Warren!!!

Sales tax? Surely can't be more than the 15.5% we have here in Quebec. Oh no, another reason to buy more tools!!!

I'll take another peek here tomorrow morning before I leave.

Not if you ship home

Tom Scott (Midlothian, TX)

>If you buy something there and ship home out of the state, sales tax will not be charged. We did that when we went up there. Shipping was probably close to what the sales tax would be (unless you buy that L-N #8), but you don't have to worry about carrying it around. Most merchants will package it up for you as well.

Rust AND antiques

Bob Hackett

>As you drive down RT 1 and enter Brunswick,On your right at the overpass you`ll see the Ft.Andross flea mkt/antique mall. You`ll need to exit up the ramp, find a place to turn around(I use the drive just this side of the bridge on the left) and then go back toward downtown to get to the parking lot.Rust for you(I picked up 2 Whitherby socket chisels for a buck each last time)and antiques for her.The second floor antique shop on the right has tools too.just not at bottom feeder prices.
