>Any day you can get up and set in your pajamas with a cup of coffee and buy a #75 rabbet plane with a decent box for $20 has got to be a good day, doesn't it? The box will look so good with my really small collection of other boxes. Sorry for the gloat; just can't help it. There just aint no high like a tool high. I'll gloat some more maybe when the tool is actually here ;( I'm sure Todd will chime in here and calm me down with stories of the new tools in boxes he has boughten with a wooden nickel.

Actually I've never found the 75 to be worth a durn as a user, but hey, it's a nice box to boot, so it'll be worth a few $$$ years down the road if nothing else eh?

PJ's eh? Whatcha got for pics om 'em old tools? ;~)

>Moses,

It looks to me like you did well. I was at an auction yesterday in Hillsdale County that was selling tools and guns. If I remember correctly, a kind of beat up, well worn #75 sold for $35.00 or so. You did much better and saved yourself a drive.

>Ron Metz, a local tool dealer I work with, mentioned that he was going to the same auction you were at, but I had to turn it down due to what is going to be an extremely busy month, and the fact I spent a day at an auction last saturday, but it sure was tempting to go and watch. I spent the day yesterday in my Amish friend's shop sealer sanding and spraying my cabinets. Did you find any bargains there? I'm sure I'll get a nice report from him tomorrow; look forward to seeing you in Ohio in June.

>Hey, I've got one of those! Bought it for nothing from a cousin (i.e. he threw it in with some other tools I bought.) I never knew what kind of a plane it is -- I mostly use my #90, haven't got around to tuning this one up.

>Looks like a real nice buy and the seller was probably a slow head for using the "Buy it Now" feature somthing I just don't understand why people use ....I could be wrong though because I had a MINT in original box Stanley 220 plane of older vintage then this 75 on ebay last week and it only went to $31,[didn't sell]. Didn't get it for a wooden nickle, was in a pile including a strange Mint in the box Millers Falls Plane-R-File with tenite handles, some bevel squares, great Russel green river knives and some other etc. and had to pay $20 for it all....Todd

>Moses,

I didn't see too many bargains. I did buy an early example of a #46, but it has some problems. It did come with 5 blades and with a little clean up will make a good user.

I'm looking forward to Akron, too. A M-WTCA national meet within 2 hours is always appreciated.

>Don't put a lot of energy into your #75 if you've got a good bullnose of any type. This was one of the first specialty planes I bought years ago - the price was so much better than the #90! It's awkward (the top of the iron will dig a hole in your finger), it's too light to plane well, and it's a bear to adjust. Great boat anchor for mice, decent paperweight. Just not a good plane.
