Barbersville Bust

>I don't know what the he!! happened, but I can tell you this snafu put me one kind of ticked off mood for about 30 minutes this morning, which is usually quite difficult to do.

According to the MWTCA website there was to be a meet in Barbersville Fl. on April 2nd and 3rd. My buddy and I made arrangements to go, and this morning at 3 am we hit the road. Got to the place where we "ass-u-me"d the meet would be and NOTHING! We fiqured perhaps the meet might be at a different location this time than last, such as perhaps a church parking lot, VFW hall, fire station etc, etc, so we drove all over the Barbersville area and found NOTHING! Stopped and asked numerous locals and nobody knew anything about it. So the question is "What the #%&* Chuck, Over?

Misprint on the Website? Will there be a meet the 3rd and 4th, vs the 2nd and 3rd? If you intend to go to this advertised meet you'd better check it out before leaving, unless you like driving for 2 hours or more for NOTHING like my buddy and I did. :~(

I passed up a fossil club meeting last night so as to get into bed early so as to be well rested for a early morning wake up and long drive.

I must confess to being a bit upset, but I'll get over it I guess. The day wasn't a total loss tho, as my buddy and I stopped at a small flea-market and I picked up a heavily rusted Sargent knuckle joint block plane that is is seriouse need of resuing for $3, and a push drill also for $3. The push drill came in its original tin box, and from what it says on the remaining bit of the label it is a No.1 Automatic Drill manufactured by Goodell Brothers in Greenfield, Mass. Anybody have any clues to the vintage of this push drill?

We than went over to Chipmunks Hardwoods in Edgewater where he bought some georgous Maple for his workbench top. Nice place and nice fellow operating the plave, I think his name is Brad. Well worth a visit if you're in that area. It is in the new industrial park just off of Park Ave. in Edgewater.

>Yeah, that's the one John. What the heck happened? The website said April 2nd and 3rd. How did you know it was last weekend? Perhaps a different website source?

They have tool swaps at the Pioneer Art Settlement a few times each year. I live in Deland about 20 miles away, so I am able to read about it in our local paper. You can also call them at 386-749-2959 for more information on upcoming events.

>I would go up higher than this bulletin board on this subject. The M-WTCA is working hard at getting and keeping members who will be the future of the club, and local meets are the best member attractors. I'm sure the local leaders would be glad to listen to your problem, and try to make sure it doesn't happen again. I usually get a post card for local events, and so far none of the dates have been wrong. The future of all information is the web; some organizations, especially older ones, are not quite up to par in that area, as so few of their member's rely on the web for their info. Keep in mind, the whole organization is run by volunteers; perhaps you could volunteer some of your time and expertise also to try and prevent this from happening to others. We are the future leaders of the M-WTCA.

>Well dad-gum John, if you're right there in Deland perhaps we ought to arrange for a meet 'n' greet sometime around the next meeting eh?

Nice Stealth Glot by the way: I live only 20 miles from where there are two MWTCA meets a year. Lucky Bastar, er, er, guy. ;~)

Moses, yeah you're right. Don't know about the expertise you're talking about, but I could volunteeer some time once I get all settled into my new life, i.e. get a job, and know what my free time schedule is going to look like. Got a part time job interview on Monay morning. Am appling for a nighttime Tool Room Attendant position at the school that I am attending. I think I'll get it too, which could lead into a full time position in the other tool room as the guy who runs it now is soon to retire. Decent pay, benefits, and only 4 days a week! Yup, 3 day weekend EVERY weekend. :~)
