LN 62 uses...?

>Just what exactly does this tool excel at? I don't plane on building or flattening any butcher blocks anytime soon and am curious to know what all you use this plane for. It looks like it would make a great shooting plane. Thanks

>This is a marvellous plane that can be u ud for nearly anything!

Seriously, when you have a difficult planing job (wild grain, exotics etc), this is a plane to try and in 90 percent of cases it will do a terrific job. Whilst this may seem counter intuitive, given the designation of "low-angle" and the fact that many folk will turn to a higher angle like 50 degrees for planing exotics, don't forget this plane has its bevel up so the cutting angle is bevel angle plus the 12 degree bedding angle.

It is one of my most used planes.

>I use the LN 62 regularly for smoothing and shooting. The jack size hasn't been a problem for smoothing, even with small table tops. The low attack angle is fine for most common hardwoods, end grain or face grain. For difficult face grain, I have an iron ground to 38 degrees. It is quick and easy to set different mouth openings for different work. The tote and knob are very comfortable for my smallish hands. The only negatives for me and they are minor ones: no lateral adjuster on the iron (no room for one) and there is very little lateral play so irons must be carefully ground so edge is perpendicular to sides.
