Looking for Rarebear

Todd O. Cronkhite Native of Maine

>I'm trying to find in my list of favorites the site of Rarebear. He is the fellow who does an awesome job of restoring planes. Can anybody help me out?

I want to see just how he gets his plane bodies so darn clean. I spend allot of time with brushes and picks trying to get rust out of coeners and crevices. I think that I need to find a different technique to speed up the cleaning process after zapping. I'm thinking of a small sandblaster set up to do the final clean up. As much as I enjoy saving dead tools, I spend too much time at it, and not enough time using them.

Anybody know of a good, inexpensive sand/glass bead blaster that would be ideal for this purpose?

If you would prefer to maintain the illusion that 'needs' have much to do with our acquisitions, I'll play along. But 'a bigger one than I want"? I thought that concept only applied to cell phones and other critical appendages. ;-)

Benchtop blaster

Bob Hackett

>I have a benchtop cabinet model I got from the Snap-on man used(he owed me a favor). It loads from the top and except for the compressor is self contained(has it`s own light,DC blower, etc. All in it`s own housing).I bought it when I was building Harleys and it`s sized so a primary cover will fit in it,that being the largest casting on a HD.

As luck would have it,a #8 will fit comfortably into it too.I`m sure you could score a comparable unit on E-bay for probably alot less than I paid for my rig.The whole thing stores under the old metal desk I use for a metalworking table when not in use.Sure is a handy item for all sorts of things.Wish I had a digital camera that worked so I could think about posting a pic.I`ll bet it`s just the ticket for what you had in mind ToddO.(now if you`d just move back to the homeland you could borrow mine!)

Hmmmmmmmmmmm, yeah, I see your point Clay, that is kind of oxy-moronish sentence isn't it. Ahhhhhhhh well, just consider the source ;~)

Got to thinking today(when I didn't even know I was thinking) and came up with this brilliant idea. Why not build a monster cabinet out of plywood that has slides in it that can be installed/removed to make the working space smaller/larger as the piece being blasted requires. Make it big enough to hold say a '57 Chevy fender, that a' way if'n I wanted to 'blast something bigger than planes in the future all I'd have to do is remove a few slides and presto-bango have at it. Sound like a good idea? Pros? Cons?

What is the DC blower for? I have never used a sandblaster - just wondering.

>If you didn`t have some type of blower system in that small a cabinet you wouldn`t be able to see what you`re working on for very long. The DC system also draws off the spent blasting media so the work goes faster
