>Glad it helped. It was a sudden inspiration: dog stuck in hole, a foot of 3/4" all-thread lying there left over from the truss rods on my anvil stand. Big mallet on the bench.
Be sure to get a 'fresh' piece of threaded rod the first time, as anything well used is more likely to have worn the manufacturing burr away, which is what does the reaming. Also, it's a good idea to run it through a doghole frequently when the bench is new; as soon as you notice any binding (or whenever you drip glue or finish down one). It's been a year or so since I needed to do this: right after I moved to FL from MA. Much drier here in my climate controlled atelier. Love that low relative humidity.
