find screwdriver

Les Williams

>I worked with a guy who owned a set of screw drivers. They were wooden handled and were ratcheting. On the head stock they said SIRALUX, and they were made in Sheffield Eng. I have looked on the web and have found nothing. If anyone could help me to find these drivers I would be happy. If nobody has a clue I would like to hear of a good ratcheting driver that is worth my money and time.

Thanks for your time,

Les

Yankee drivers

Bill Houghton, Sebastopol, CA

>Yankee drivers, when the locking collar is locked so the shaft is closed, are also ratchet drivers. There are thousands of them out there that have been around for upwards of 50 years and are still ticking along, working fine. Interchangeable bits, so one handle can turn multiple screws if you have a bit that fits.

There's one German company using the same principle that makes a driver taking 1/4" hex bits, such as found in any hardware store. If/when I find one of those, I'll be grabbing onto it, since the Yankee bits are a tad pricey.

Spiralux

Dar

>Hello Les,

What you are looking for is Spiralux which was bought by Spear & Jackson which comes under the umbrella of Neill Tools, Sheffield, England. You might want to try a local engineering supplier that supplies Moor and Wright which is another company under the same umbrella. Failing that contact Spear & Jackson direct via www.spear-and-jackson.com. Although I don't see it listed on their web-site, they are still listed in their catalogue, part number 6204 and 6220 for the Phillips.

Hope this helps!

>Bill,

I picked up one of these to "modrenize " my Yankee and am really pleased with the product and bringing new life back to an old tool.
