Gransforsbrucks

>A previous post mentioned Gransforsbrucks as a maker of tools to remove bark. I have seen ads in the Garret Wade catalog for their axes and hatchets. They also make scorps and adzes. Can some one comment on the quality, etc. of their product line? I was looking at an adze for chair seats.

For me the the drawknife didn't work nice making rungs for post&rung/ladderback chairs. I prefer drawknifing bevel down with the one countryworkshop sells. The rounded drawknife of gransfors is also harder to sharpen. At www.europeanhandtools.com there are twocherrie knives, more moderately priced maybe that's an option.

What the ??????

You mean you don't buy tools you have absolutely no need for? Wow. That is odd. I hope I don't develop that serious mental condition. I think I'll run by the Bobcat dealer on the way home and peer through the chain link fence.

you think i NEED two axes?

marketymarkmark

>hell no! i got one cuz i needed and i ended up getting two because i couldn't decide which i liked better...

eventually i'll get a third...

anyway, the rule is: "buy the tool then find a need". not "have a need and buy the tool".

>Scott: I am trying to buy all the chairmaking tools now before they are not made any more. That way I will be prepared like a good little boy scout when I do take the chair class. It works! Now I am taking Brian Boggs class in August. See honey, I told you I needed them.

Whew good to hear "practicality" doesn't interfere

I think Dubar's class makes you buy tools

Russell Seaton

>Scott, trying to not buy chairmaking tools without first taking a chairmaking class

I have heard Mike Dunbar's chairmaking classes require you to buy certain tools before you show up. I think he even sends a list of tools you have to buy. Required tool lists are good. So you could buy the chairmaking tools now with the knowledge and comfort that you are simply getting prepared to take Dunbar's class. And if you buy them now, on sale when you see them, you will save money. Is that logical or what?

>Sounds reasonable. But I won't be taking Dunbar's class. Hafta check and see (a) if Jim Rendi has the same list, and if not (b) which list has more goodies that I, um, need...

As long as you have a list, you're OK
