Push drill bits?

Bill Houghton, Sebastopol, CA

>Some time back, there was a discussion of Stanley's plan to stop stocking push drill bits, and someone mentioned a supplier that still carries them - I thought it was Highland Hardware, but I can't find any reference on their website. Anyone know of a source?

>Bill,

Although not the same Sears Hardware is/was carrying bits that fit in the push drills. They are made in the twist style vs. the fluted style but fit and work just as well.If you can't find them let ne know and I'll be happy to check locally here.

>Don't think anybody is stocking them, best bet is the older hardware stores. Been meaning to stock up here myself. Let me know what size your looking for and will check for you.

>They don't work as well, in my experience - I don't understand the physics, and it may all be in my head, but the fluted ones seem to drill better than the twist bits.

>I think it has to do with the fact that there is more drill metal at the side of the twist bits making them more prone to sticking in the reverce mode.

>Ace Hardware here has them (the old fluted ones) for $2.00 of so a bit (kinda on the high side it seems to me). Also they show up on the "bay" alot.

Scott, just back from Santa Fe.
