Neandercar finished *PICS* *LINK*
Rob Brophy Niagara Falls
>It was a long week, but the Neandercar is finished. For those who missed my first posting about this project: it's a prop for a stage play, made out of wood & steel (using a lot of Neanderthal tools), sitting on an old electric golf cart. The project took six weeks from start to finish.

Just to the right of the car is one of the handiest handtools ever made...the Hossfeld Bender. In the photo it is set up for bending right angles in flat bar, but it with different dies it can bend metal pipe, tube, or angle iron into just about any shape imaginable. My new LV LA block plane saw its first use on this project and passed all tests with flying colours...while trimming the wooden side panels, I ventured too close to the mild steel frame and it actually cut a beautiful metal curl. Shame on me, but three cheers for LV. No harm done to plane or blade.

It's difficult to see in the photo, but the dashboard is a beautiful length of quartersawn white oak with a few coats of shellac. The headlights are cut down paint cans wrapped in sheet brass. The fuzzy dice are an added touch by a coworker.

There are a few more earlier photos here...
