BSE and bone glue?

Dirk Wright

>I was wondering if anyone has considered the possibility of being exposed to BSE through the use of bone/hide glue. Given that prions are not destroyed by cooking, and that sick cows go straight to the rendering plant, I suppose we can assume that this glue is contaminated. I doubt that merely getting your fingers covered with the stuff may not be enough to cause infection, but I think I'm going to be very careful about washing up afterwards....

>Hi Y'all,

Dirk, different parts of the animal are used in glue making from the parts that contain BSE. However, I do share your concerns about this dreadful disease, and would suggest that you look into food stuffs that use rendering products in their manufacture. For instance, some candy products like "Licorice," and a good many products that have a chewy texture.
