>I had to go through the pics on my old computer to see what I wanted to keep, as we are passing it on to a friend, and found these pics of my tool box and shop. My new Adobe Elements program seems to do a decent job of resizing the files for uploading.

I built this box a few years back, realizing and planning on the fact that it would be the only one I would ever build, and it will be an ongoing project my whole life. I spent three months or so, had a lot of fun, and have not done much to it since. I could go out and measure it I guess, if you really need to know, but guesstimated size is about 30" wide, 46" high, and 18" deep. The doors have fold out racks, saws in the right door, chisels, files and scrapers in the left door, there are pigeon holes in the lower inside section for block planes etc., the upper section has fold out racks for marking, boring, spokeshaves, and small hammers/ mallets. The inside upper left section will hold bench planes 1-8 (I don't have a #1 yet, and have not yet installed the 4-1/2 and 5-1/4 and 2 that I now have) and holds a number 50 plow plane in the very top above the #6 & 7. Upper right inside holds boring tools, the large corner brace, a chain drill, angle attachment for brace, and other misc. A couple more pics after this one. This was really a fun project, and I probably have more time into it than anything else I've ever worked on except my house.

>Ernie, that is why I had to find the old pictures to post. They were taken right after the remodel. The shelf behind the bench is a catch all for found tools I have noticed, and has a pile of iron setting on it waiting for a get to it. I did a bunch of cleaning tonight though, as I am starting to see light at the end of the tunnel on this project and it was still nice and warm outside. I always clean up good after a project, but large projects tend to get the shop pretty cluttered.

>Mr Yoder, you now have successfully convinced me not to post pictures of my shop! ;-)

Very impressive! Looks like a joy to work in.

Did you work off plans of some sort to do the box layout, etc?

>I was inspired by various pictures in magazines and on-line and The Toolbox Book. I designed it to fit the tools in the way I wanted, which is kind of an individual thing, so didn't use any plans other than the sketches I drew up. I plan on adding a section with crown and interior lighting at the top and then adding a base cabinet with storage for larger tools.

Great job! I'd love to see more closeups of the opened box. Maybe David Y could use the pix for a Shop Shot for posterity.

Wall Attachment Method?

>Beautiful toolbox, Moses. Just wondering how you attached it to the wall....there looks to be more than a few pounds of iron in there

>Beautiful work Moses. I concur with others that, if you can find the time, please post more photos and details. I'm think9ing that Jim Tolpin was remiss in not getting your tool cabinet in his "Toolbox" book.

Cheers,

Mike

>I used mitred hang strips, two strips on the box and two on the wall, lag bolted, about 3" wide, so the box can just be lifted off the wall. I was concerned about the weight also, as the box by itself is all I can pick up, so it must weigh about a hundred pounds. The side panels are made with through mortise & tenon joints, so screwing the hang strips into the side panel gives plenty of support. Thanks for the compliments.

>More pictures! Don't be shy, it's not like anyone is going to complain that there are too many. I also second the thought of sending a group of pics in for Shop Shot, it's just much easier to see them all on one page, so one can check things from different angles ...

Thanks for sharing, I'm green with envy of that shop too ...

And the old Coleman lanterns are a nice touch.
