A knowledgeable vendor

Wiley Horne--Glendora CA

>Hi All,

Just had a very nice experience I wanted to share with you. I got in touch with Joel at Tools for Working Wood about a week ago to place an order for Auriou rasps. He had just unpacked his stock and didn't have it advertised yet, but took time over President's day, to send me availability lists.

When I called him last Tuesday, I got some great help from him. His advice kept me from buying the wrong item, which would have been an expensive mistake, and got me onto the right item. I also got a gentle lesson on how to use rasps--this came up in connection with the topic of right-handed and left-handed rasps, which is a thing I had never heard of. It has to do with the orientation of the lines of cutting teeth. Turns out both Joel and I are left-handed, and he ended up placing a special order back to Europe for a couple of left-handed rasps for me, and one for himself. So I ended up getting better than what I had bargained for, even though he had to defer the sale to wait on the special order to arrive.

At the end of the discussion, I felt I had a budding relationship with a very knowledgeable vendor, who knows and uses the tools he sells. Relationships are what life is about IMO, and, in addition, relationships with knowledgeable tool vendors can save you money because you avoid mistakes, which is the most costly thing of all.

Joel supports WoodCentral.

>I also appreciate the time that Joel has spent with me in discussing the orders that I have placed. I, too, recommend him to others. Yes, he does support and post on WoodCentral.

P.S. I am also one of those left handed people.

>You beat me to it Wiley. This week I went back and forth with Joel over email discussing the virtues of certain chisels he sells at Tools For Working Wood. With him in NYC and me in Markham Ontario (ok, ok, I was at work), we were able to communicate more effectively than I do with most people in my office!

I was impressed and when the $$$ are available, I'll be glad to do business with him.

>Hi,

I agree wholeheartedly. I had some time off a couple of weeks ago and drove into the city to check out Joel's showroom. There is limited space for show and naturally most of what I was interested in was in the back and had to be brought out. Both Joel and his crew were very helpful. My purchse wasn't terribly large but there wasn't any sense of rushing me out. I was happy to have been able to be able to look things over and try out some great tools. Got in some good conversation as well.
