Sharpening my kebiki

Frank D.

>Hi everyone,

I checked the archives but couldn't find anything on sharpening a japanese mortising gauge--the one with the blades that are bent at 90 degrees near the cutting edge. I could probably get by with my diamond pocket stone, but was wondering if anyone had a trick or jig to speed things up and make it easier. It is new and the blades need a lot of work.

I was also wondering what to do for final honing. I only have big water stones. Won't I make a groove in them when I hone the two blades? Because of the angle near the cutting edge, it's almost impossible to move the blade anywhere else but back and forth along the very edge of a stone.

Thanks for any advice

I sharpen that on the side of the water stone.
